Functional Mixed Media
This is one of my newer pieces. I am pleased with how it turned out. I carried the idea of it around in my head for a long time before I sat down to execute it. It's a basic wooden plaque that I have covered in my own home made felt. Actually, it goes back even more than that. First I dyed the wool, then I made it into the felt. The door knocker is solid brass and it's surrounded by swirls of glass beads. In amongst these beads are polymer clay beads that I made and painted. I attached the word knock to these beads in five different languages. I think this would be so perfect for someone's studio or office and if it doesn't get snatched up, it's going on mine! Click on this link Felted Door Knocker to see more photos. I think what I like about it is the soft background of the felt against the hard brass. It's sort of unexpected, but nice.
