Tasseled Miser's Purse ~ Crochet-Along ~ Free Pattern ~ Follow Up

Before I say a final farewell to this crochet-along, I just wanted to share the other miser's purse I made while I was writing up this pattern. Green and purple are happy colors for me so I really like the way this one made up. You'll also notice that I mixed in some fun fibers to add a little sparkle to the tassel. It's a small touch, but it adds a bit of pizazz. The bottom of the pouch on this one is also different in that it comes to more of a point. This is accomplished simply by increasing the tension of your stitches. I didn't alter the pattern in any way.

I've only received feedback from one friend so far. She said Part II was a toughy, but she made it through. This pattern does have some confusing aspects to it. It doesn't help that it likes to twist and turn while your are working the top portion, which is perhaps the most complicated part. The first time I ever made a miser's purse, it was from a late 1800's pattern. I probably started over half a dozen times before it began to make sense to me. I just want you to know, that if you're frustrated, you are not alone. Even so, it's such a neat little bag. I hope you feel, in the end, that it was worth the effort.

PS ~ I'll continue to check for comments, so if you need help, I'm still here!

  1. It is beautiful. I'm working on a sweater for my daughter right now but I'm putting this in my que to do later. I would need to buy yarn for it too. Can't wait. Thank you for the pattern.

  2. Do you have photos of it open? The ones I make are slightly different with the chains added after the bag is made.

  3. Here's a link to my Single Sided Miser's Purse that contains a picture of the opening. The Tasseled Miser's Purse works in the same way.

  4. Great! Thanks. Yes, mine opens the same way. Ok, was hard to 'picture' it when I was going thru your tutorial.

  5. I made one in KnitPicks Telemark in green and purple, much like the one in the "follow-up" photo. I still need to sew on beads, but I'm loving this pattern!!

Next one I make will be done in thread to make a smaller one.

  6. Took me a few tries and with lotta yelling at the wall, I finally had a eureka moment and it all fell into place and now I am the proud owner of a miser bag and all because your pattern and you saw me through. Thanks so much for this gift of the crochet along!!!

  7. Hi,
Thanks for this lovely pattern. I just finished one. I changed the pattern a little by keeping the same color and doing beads where you have dots. I used #10 crochet thread and an 8 hook.
    thanks again.

  9. This is a wonderful thing you have done. My mom and I were at Hobby Lobby the other day and saw a pattern for this but thought it would be too difficult, your step by step directions are going to give our stitch and bitch club less to complain about.

  10. Thank you for the beautiful pattern! Your directions for this were great--while I am an almost complete newcomer to crochet, I was able to complete the bag in little over a day. I did appear to have one fewer drawstring than the pattern called for (row 22 of the flap has two drawstrings being pulled over or one pulled over twice? I had fifteen strings) and I couldn't figure out how to properly attach the tassel, though I got it on there. Other than that, I had no difficulty and the bag looks great.

    Thank you again,

    Sarah

  11. Thank you for your very clear instructions. I started this & couldn't quite wrap my brain around it, so asp I have learned to do in difficult patterns, I just follow what is written to the tee, and voila it was perfect! Was I ever surprised that I completed my very FIRST Miser bag on my first attempt. Great job Jenn, the pictures really helped a lot. I can see myself making these for a long time.

  12. Thanks Deb! That's very nice to hear especially with this pattern. I think miser's bags can be very confusing the first time you make them, so I'm very glad you found the pattern easy to follow.

  13. Hi Jenn...Thanks for the beautiful pattern! I am having the same problem as a previous poster....once I get to row 22, I have only one chain drawstring left, not two, as instructions call for. I have 15 drawstrings just like it says. Starting from row 8, counting each row, there are 15 rows including row 22. Any suggestions? (I skipped row 16 for a fix but haven't went beyond that point yet to see if that is going to work.

  14. I had the same problem with the number of strings. If I make another, I'll also have to make the strings a little longer, as my wallet is a little too wide to make it through them. Very interesting pattern though!
